Yesterday I attended the Berlin premiere of a new movie after a book by Element Of Crime singer Sven Regener. It’s a comedy set in the German Techno scene of the 90s. Marmion’s 1993 classic “Schöneberg” is part of the soundtrack.
German electronic pop duo 2raumwohung aka Inga Humpe and Tommi Eckart just released their 8th studio album Nacht und Tag. The opening track “1993” also carries some inspiration from “Schöneberg”
Between my fingers you can see the golden deer at Volkspark Schöneberg which was featured on the cover of the 2010 remixes of Marmion’s classic Schöneberg. Now 20 years after the original release of the track by Marcos López and myself on Superstition Records, it sounds fresh as ever.
Little did Mijk van Dijk and Marcos López know back in June 1992, that they would write a techno classic called Schöneberg only about one year later. MFS Records had just released the ground-breaking compilation Tranceformed From Beyond, often called “the first Trance compilation in history”, compiled, remixed and produced by Cosmic Baby and Mijk […]
Remember the time, long before Soundcloud, Traktor and Ableton, when DJ mixtapes were still special? Raw recordings from a night in a club with no strings attached, copied and shared tape by tape like secret knowledge. When Marcos Lopez and me aka Marmion heard a mixtape in the early 90s, there was that one wow-moment […]
2 Decades Of Berlin Club Sound sqeezed into one nice compilation. Also featuring the original version of Marmion’s “Schöneberg“, the evergreen by Mijk van Dijk and Marcos López. Nerd fact: Schöneberg is the district in Berlin, where Mijk lives and where this track has been created back in 1993. Thank you for the attention, Magazin!
In the September 2012 issue of German De-Bug magazine Alexandra Dröner transcribed an interview she had led with Marcos López and myself about the history of our Marmion track Schöneberg. Here’s the link to the article on Marcos’ website.
It’s been almost 7 years since the last offering of remixes for the Marmion classic “Schöneberg”, produced by Marcos Lopez & Mijk van Dijk back in 1993. We think it was worth the wait since the new versions by no other than DJ Hell, Abe Duque,Donnacha Costello, Chaim, Roberto Rodriguez and Sebastian Krieg & Strobe.
In November 1996 I toured with my Marmion partner Marcos López through Australia, playing Marmion shows in Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
Marcos López and me were invited to disucss and perform in the music show Eurotops on East-German TV channel MDR. The topic was dance music and how people interact with it. Another guest was Frank Farian, producer of Boney M, Milli Vanilli, and others. Riding high on the wave of success of our Marmion smasher Schöneberg […]
In 1993, my friend Marcos Lopez and me composed a classic which two decades later still spreads ecstasy and goose bumps on the dance floors around the world. The Marmion Berlin EP was composed and produced in my studio in Schöneberg and hence one tune was in fact called “Schöneberg”.
