DJVR1Some of you might know that I originally moved to Berlin in the 80s to study at the Freie Universität Berlin to become a journalist. I wrote for music magazines like Network Press, !Hype, Cut and Frontpage, met and interviewed artists like De La Soul, Digital Underground, A Tribe Called Quest, Moby, Kevin Saunderson, 808 State, LFO, The Hypnotist, Todd Terry, to name but a few. In 1992 I did a radio show called House Arrest on Rockradio B, a short-lived youth radio station out of the ashes of DT64 that would soon become Radio Fritz of RBB.
Then my music career just took over in 1992 and I became the DJ, live act and producer that you know since 24 years.
I’m doing DJ radio again since a couple of years with my shows motherfunk and music 4 the microglobe. But apart from a few articles like this one about the early years of the Berlin Techno Scene I haven’t been writing officially ever since. Just here on my blog and on social media.
I’m happy to say that I am writing again on a regular basis now, for musician’s web portal Bonedo, about DJ issues and in German language – I just feel so much more fluid and secure in my mother tongue.
While some of my microglobe citizen friends from all over the world won’t be able to follow me on this part of my journey I hope that my German-speaking friends and fans will do so.
My first article is online now and discusses DJing in Virtual Reality: the present, the past, the future.
The past includes excursions into oldschoolish territory like Berlin’s The Brain Parties, Mindmachines and so on.
In case you haven’t clicked on some of the embedded links already:
>>> HERE <<< is my first article for Bonedo. Enjoy! Discuss!
