Computerspielemuseum in BerlinLast Thursday I visited the Computerspielemuseum (Museum for Computer Games) in Berlin. Curator Andreas Lange showed me around and even played a “death match” on the notorious Painstation. That’s a video game based on the classic video game Pong, but with the twist that the players are punished with whips, heat and even electro shocks, when they let the ball pass by their racket. A very intense physical experience indeed.
Apart from that, the Computerspielemuseum exhibits many old school video game hard-and-software and explains the development of certain milestones of computer game design.
Other highlights are a rebuild of an 80s arcade hall with arcade consoles like Donkey Kong, Space Invaders, Centipede and a section with old GDR (DDR) video games like Poly Play.
The Computerspielemuseum is situated at Karl-Marx-Allee 93a in 10243 Berlin (U-Weberwiese) and is definitely worth a visit if you have just a little sense for computer game culture.
I must recommend this place especially to my otaku friends from Japan.
We also discussed some future projects. More here on this page, when we get started.
