Just before this Christmas Sunday ends: some midnight vibes from Inge Brandenburg, a true German Jazz Diva from the 60s.Up there with the best!
It’s the time of year again: Christmas season is here. Back in the early 90s, the discontinued Boom Magazine invited several activists from the Berlin club scene
My dear friends and fans in Germany and abroad, I am still shocked about the horrible assault on the Christmas market at Berlin’s Breitscheidplatz, an iconic square in the heart of Westberlin, that I know by heart.
Strange and mysterious things happen in the autumn-coloured forests of Oberhavel in the far north of Brandenburg. Problems shrink and people get lost. Like in this wonderful video
a glow are singer/songwriter Jette von Roth and DJ/producer Mijk van Dijk from Berlin. Together they produce crackling campfire electronica. „perfect“ is the first single release
Yesterday night I played once again together with my friend Harald Blüchel aka Cosmic Baby at the Liquid Sky Berlin Ambient Underwater Candlelight Jam at Maze in Berlin. In 1992 we conceived together an early milestone in electronic music history: the compilation Tranceformed From Beyond,
This is my set from my belated B*day party. Big thanks to my boys Ralph Ballschuh and DJ Jauche for their wonderful sets. I truly had a blast, also thanks to the wonderful crowd at Süss.War Gestern in Berlin.
I played my first techno liveset this year at Kassablanca Jena, performing a journey through my music from the last 25 years and also introducing the forthcoming first EP on my label microglobe productions called “Peace 4 All”.
Today I would like to post a recommendation for “Raving Iran”, a movie about the Techno scene in Iran,
Himmelpfort is a special place in Germany – it’s a beautiful small village in the far north of Brandenburg, idyllically surrounded by four lakes and dense forests.
It’s time to play live again. I’m feeling it! Since my last live show at Nature One 2015 I have only been playing DJ gigs and some ambient electronic live jams with my Liquid Sky Berlin family. So I was very delighted when Kassablanca club asked me to play a live show for their “25 […]
What a fine 15th Walfisch Revival Party that was on September 23rd 2016 at KitKat Club Berlin. Steffi, Jay & Felix for the first time ever opened both floors, since it was the 5th birthday of this wonderful Old School Techno event series.
I’m very happy to announce my 2017 Japan Tour. This September I shall tour Fukuoka, Osaka and Tokyo and introduce the music of my new label microglobe. In times of fear and anxiety, let’s celebrate our unity in our minds and our music. Here are the dates: September 15th: Fukuoka, Kieth Flack September 16th: Osaka, bar 天空喫茶 September 17th: Tokyo, Wall&Wall Watch this space for updates and more...read more
Yesterday I attended the Berlin premiere of a new movie after a book by Element Of Crime singer Sven Regener. It’s a comedy set in the German Techno scene of the 90s. Marmion’s 1993 classic “Schöneberg” is part of the soundtrack. “Magical Mystery” is a kind of sequel to the movie “Herr Lehmann”, also a book and film written by Sven Regener. “Magical Mystery” is directed by Arne Feldhusen and features well-known German actors like Charly Hübner, Detlev Buck, Marc Hosemann, Annika Meier, Bjarne Mädel and Bastian Reiber, to name a few. Modeselektor and Westbam wrote part of the soundtrack and Westbam is also having a short cameo appearance. Let’s see if you guys can spot him. Me and my Marmion mate Marcos López were quite fond of how our track “Schöneberg” appears in the film. I don’t wanna give away too much, but my music is finally the soundtrack for a love scene in cinema. Check! Thanks to Charlotte Goltermann for picking our tune and Katrin Erichsen for the premiere invitation. The Open Air setting next to Potsdamer Platz was just beautiful and the thunderstorm hit in, when the movie was over. And now get a taste of “Magical Mystery”, here’s the official trailer. Out in German cinemas on August 31, 2017. Magical Mystery (Official Trailer) More Info (in German): Originaltitel: Magical Mystery oder: Die Rückkehr des Karl Schmidt Comedydrama, DE 2017 Filmverleih: DCM Filmverleih Kinostart (DE): 31.08.2017 Schauspieler/Darsteller: Charly Hübner, Detlev Buck, Marc Hosemann, Annika Meier, Bjarne Mädel, Bastian Reiber u.a. Was kann da schon schiefgehen?” (taken from the YouTube...read more
German electronic pop duo 2raumwohung aka Inga Humpe and Tommi Eckart just released their 8th studio album Nacht und Tag. The opening track “1993” also carries some inspiration from “Schöneberg”, the tune I wrote with my friend Marcos López under our moniker Marmion in the year of 1993. In this supernice podcast by Songpoeten Inga and Tommi chat with former German music TV personality Nils Bokelberg about the album, their inspiration and also about our song “Schöneberg”, starting at 57:30 minutes. But don’t be too much in a rush: the whole podcast is worthwhile listening – when you understand German language. My Marmion partner Marcos López also wrote nicely about this on his own...read more
I am happy to present you „monsters“, the second single release of a glow, my project with the wonderful Jette von Roth out of our forthcoming album „of the undergrowth“, due this fall. It is accompanied by remixes by Jette von Roth, Hiroshi Watanabe aka Kaito, Humate and myself, as well as by a spectacular video by the Cologne-based visual artist Uli Sigg. We know him through our collaborations with the Liquid Sky Berlin collective around Dr. Walker. Jette sings about the monsters, fears and thoughts that follow us in our dreams and which we can not banish from our heads. Uli dresses the song into dystopian images of a dissolving world as presented daily by the media. Reality crumbles literally before our very eyes. The video has been premiered exclusively by Kaltblut Magazine on June 16th. The song has been premiered by tsugi. The single is released worldwide on July 7th 2017. Mastering by Sandro Dreßler. monsters is now available in your favourite download shop. Here you can listen to the original and all the remixes and watch the stunning video. And share, if you like! 😉 a glow – monsters EP – Soundcloud a glow – monsters –...read more
The video premiere of the second a glow single monsters is out NOW: the very fashionable KALTBLUT Magazine presented the stunning video that was created by Cologne-based visual artist Uli Sigg in close collaboration with Jette and myself. Jette sings about the monsters, fears and thoughts that haunt us in our dreams and which we can not banish from our heads. Uli dresses the song into dystopian images of a dissolving world as presented daily by the media. Reality crumbles literally before our very eyes. Jette’s lyrics of the song exist for quite a while now. They are basically about the hidden fears that haunt us, the monsters under the bed, the hidden claw, the vampires at our door. However in 2016 we realised that the lifestyle and the decisions made in our societies are more and more based on fears than on facts. Especially by the pictures we see on TV and the WWW, people get scared and irrational. They take non-constructive action and by voting for those parties and leaders, who promise to “make those pictures go away”, we even exacerbate the situation. When we entered the new millennium, many people believed that the future will be shaped by peace, tolerance, rational thinking and equality for all. We were hoping that the internet could be the tool to unite people from all over the world by communication and shared values. Now we discover that the world we thought we knew is crumbling in front of our eyes, just like the walls of Aleppo. Nothing seems safe anymore and people are torn to follow their deepest fears and those, who promise to protect them. Like a child we need to learn anew to separate fears from facts. a glow – monsters – roter...read more

I did this DJ Mix for “Liquid Sky Berlin presentzzz”, the radio show by the Liquid Sky Berlin posse on Alex Berlin radio 91,00 FM on March 3rd to celebrate “303-Day”. The Roland TB-303 is without a doubt one of the most influential bass-synths of all times and still a mainstay in my productions and has a special place in my heart. So I embraced the idea, when Dr. Walker requested a DJ-Mix for the 03.03.2017, the “303-Day”. My focus was on “dreamy 303” sounds. Some tracks are absolute classics, some are very unknown, some are played at unusual speeds, thanks to Traktor DJ Software. Can you feel it? When 303s Are Dreaming DJ-Mix by Mijk van Dijk for Liquid Sky Berlin presentzzzz, 03.03.2017 Playlist 1. ADSX, Sense & Dr. Walker – Tanz der Lemminge 27 2. In 2008 the fine documentation “We Call It Techno” was released on DVD. It was to my knowledge the first proper documentation of it’s kind with many to follow. It included a lot of video footage from a time, when there were no smartphones with cameras yet and most of us were too busy partying anyway, so that nobody really filmed much. I posted about this DVD already back in 2008. That DVD is long sold out. Today’s news is, that it’s now online on Vimeo, uploaded by the friendly people of Sense Media themselves, for your viewing pleasure. Ain’t that grand? So if you really wanna know about the origins of Techno in Germany and especially Berlin: don’t look any further. WE CALL IT TECHNO! from Sense Music & Media GmbH on...read more
